Hi friends,
It’s been an exciting few weeks here. I learned, many years too late, that you don’t need to drill holes in walls to hang pictures. You can use 3M Command strips. Why did no one tell me.
I also learned, thanks to my Instagram pals, that the best places to buy simple gold hoop earrings online are Mejuri, Astrid & Miyu, Maria Black, Catch Rhys and Etsy. Sharing is caring.
Finally, a few hours of insomnia (brought on by Hyko having an epileptic seizure in the middle of the night, doing a shit, then walking that shit around our bedroom) led me down a Reddit rabbit hole, where I learned all about the active gangs in our neighbourhood. You’re welcome!
What have you learned lately?
Your friend,
Luke xo
Ten Things
1. 💿 Katy Kirby — Blue Raspberry
Katy’s debut record was one of my faves and this followup is just as good, full of subtle indie-country gems.
2. 📱 Arc Search
A faster, better mobile browser for your phone.
3. 🎥 The Iron Claw
I wasn’t expecting Rocky-level feel-good vibes, but wow. This film about a wrestling family wrecked me.
4. 📻 What are we gonna do about all these cats?
Apparently, there are too many cats and they’re killing all the birds. Which is fascinating in itself. But the main reason to listen to this podcast is the guest appearance of a remarkable child ornithologist called Kalden.
5. 📝 Help
You should know by now that Thom Wong writes the best newsletter around. (He’s writing one from Japan at the moment.) In this wonderful edition, Thom explains why we should all ask for help more often.
6. 📝 My comments are in the Google Doc linked in the Dropbox I sent in the Slack
I can’t believe most of us spend every day doing this.
7. 📝 Masturbation abstinence is popular online. Doctors and therapists are worried
Don’t be a wanker?
8. 📝 The strange appeal of tracking your sex life
Well, I do love a spreadsheet.
9. 📝 Meet me in the eternal city
Insufferable tech bros are building a little community for themselves. Have fun, lads!
10. 📚 Kate Davies — Nuclear Family
Kate’s a friend so I’m definitely biased, but her latest novel is a gem. It explores identity, donor conception and what it means to be a family. I raced through it over a couple of days at every spare moment, and it had me laughing one minute, devastated the next. It’s beautiful.
Another beauty, Luke. Snappy, concise, confident. You say jump, I say - how high? Always gobble your recommendations.
